Finite Element Analysis

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a computer simulation technique that allows virtual verification of any product’s performance, strength and durability. FEA is the practical application of the finite element method (FEM), which is used by engineers and scientists to mathematically model and numerically solve very complex structural, thermal, fluid, and multi-physics problems. Our designers can quickly verify your products by performing comprehensive virtual tests that use various loading conditions and based on the results create an optimised design.

Benefits of FEA

FEA can be used in new product design or to refine an existing product to ensure that the design will be able to perform according to specifications prior to manufacturing. With FEA, you can:

Predict and improve product performance and reliability

 Reduce physical prototyping and testing

 Evaluate different designs and materials

Optimise designs and reduce material usage

The main focus of VKB Tech is to provide Finite Element Analysis services. We offer a complete range of structural, vibration and thermal analysis services. Our engineers have advanced degrees and a broad knowledge in numerical simulations including static structural, structural dynamic, explicit dynamic, vibration, durability and thermal analysis. Our engineers have been involved in many projects across industries including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, civil-structural, power generation, nuclear, energy, agriculture machinery and consumer products. We are offering cost effective FE analysis solutions starting from small to large companies. Our engineers can use many types of trusted FE analysis packages like Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna and HyperWorks and therefore, we can easily adjust to our customer’s needs and budget.

Structural Stress Analysis

The knowledge of how the structure behaves under the influence of operational loads for the designers is desirable and valuable. Finite element analysis enables engineers to quickly and efficiently simulate every structural aspect of a product, including stress, deformation and many others. Our experienced engineers can verify single components as well as large, complex assemblies including geometry, material non-linearities, contact phenomena and thermal effects.

Vibration Analysis

The FE vibration analysis allows the prediction at the early design stage of potential issues with high vibration caused by a resonance frequency or high harmonic excitation. VKB Tech offers detailed calculations of natural frequencies and mode shapes starting from single components to complex assemblies. In addition to modal analysis, a forced vibration analysis can be conducted to predict the response of a structure to various types of excitations and loading. The Forced vibration analysis gives the ability to predict the sustained dynamic behaviour of structures, thus helping to verify whether or not the design will successfully overcome resonance, fatigue, and other harmful effects of forced vibrations.

List of typical forced vibration analysis:

 Harmonic analysis

 Random vibration analysis

 Response spectrum analysis

 Full transient dynamic analysis

Knowing the vibration characteristics of the structure, our engineers can conduct optimisation of the design to shift natural frequencies to safe frequency regions, reduce vibration stresses and deformation. We are using the best available package on the market for topology and topography optimisation, OptiStruct.

Explicit Dynamic Analysis

An Explicit Dynamic Analysis is well suited to products that needs to sustain severe loading conditions like impact, crash, blast or excessive plastic deformation. The design of such products can be greatly improved with the use of FE explicit analysis. VKB Tech engineers have wide experience in many advanced analysis tools like Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna and HyperWorks to accurately predict design response to severe loadings. Using computational analysis to predict design response is especially important when it is too expensive or impossible to perform physical testing. The design can be verified considering many loading scenarios, thus improving its performance, quality, and safety.

Our expertise includes:

 Drop test analysis

 Crash test analysis

Occupant safety system modelling and analysis

Catastrophic failure cases & fault loading

 Passively safe structure design

 Impact and explosion protection

An FE explicit analysis allows comprehensive, automated optimisation of the design to meet product requirements. VKB Tech is using best optimisation software available on the CAE market, OptiStruct. Our engineers possess the knowledge to optimise the design to meet static and dynamic strength targets quickly and efficiently.

Fatigue and Fracture Analysis

The structures that are subjected to repeated or otherwise varying loads usually fail due to fatigue. Fatigue is often cited as the most common form of failure. It occurs at relatively low stresses, below the critical static value, however, after many stress reversals there is observed continuous reduction of fatigue strength. Finite element analysis software is used for identification of stress hotspots in the structure, but are not able to predict if those hotspots are critical areas for fatigue failure or when fatigue might become a problem. VKB Tech durability engineers, assisted by FE analysis and assessment, are able to accurately predict how long a product will last under any combination of time-dependent or frequency-dependent loading conditions using appropriate method for calculation e.g. stress and strain life methods. A fracture analysis can be conducted for the designs where cracks and defects may be present, especially in cast and welded structures. Our engineers, based stress analysis results, can predict crack growth path, critical crack size and remaining life.

VKB Tech fatigue and fracture analysis expertise includes:

High and low cycle fatigue analysis

 Thermo-mechanical fatigue

 Vibration fatigue

 Crack propagation analysis

 Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM)

 Threshold stress intensity calculation

Thermal Analysis

Thermal management in many products is one of the most important tasks. Designers have to take into account heat or cold generated by machines or effects of heating and cooling on their structures to deliver reliable and safe solutions.
VKB Tech provides thermal analysis services including all the modes of heat transfer, namely conduction, convection and radiation. Our thermal analysis expertise can help you to understand the response and performance of a structure under high/low and transient temperatures. Calculated temperature distribution within a solid structure can be used for further design verification. VKB Tech’s engineers can conduct coupled thermo-mechanical analysis to calculate thermal expansion, thermal stress, fatigue, creep and thermally induced buckling.
